THE SECRET TO BEING ORGANIZED AND OTHER TIPS TO GET IT TOGETHER October 20, 2016
Do you want to know how to keep your life organized so that you don't forget a bill, appointment or event? I used to wake up in middle of the night and wonder if I had paid a bill. The thought of late fees can be terrifying. And who can remember their whole families' doctor, eye, dental, vet and other appointments off the top of their head? Not me!
WHAT DO I NEED TO START GETTING ON TRACK?
A planner, of course! Any calendar with a monthly and weekly view that suits your style will do. It doesn't have to be fancy and really you may go through a couple of brands until you find planner peace.
HOW CAN I STAY ON TOP OF MY BILLS?
Using the monthly view of your calendar is the first step. On the date the bill is due write in the name of the bill and the amount. My personal goal is to pay my bills a week or a few days before it is actually due so that the payment has time to process. As my bills come in the mail/email/text I immediately write them down on the monthly and weekly view of my planner. After I pay a bill I put a checkmark next to the note in my planner so that I know I paid it. I have a separate binder where I keep physical bills and that is where I keep the payment confirmation numbers. You don't have to clutter your calendar with the details of the bill, you just want to have the reminder. It is a simple but very effective process.
THE MONTHLY CALENDAR VIEW IS FOR MORE THAN BIRTHDAYS
There are many things that you can and should be tracking besides birthdays. Just a few are pay days, days off work, project due dates, health issues or medication, recurring monthly tasks. If you're a business owner or on social medial you can plan social media content and posting schedules.
WHAT IS THE ONE SECRECT TO BEING ORGANIZED?
The number one secret to stay organized is.... use your calendar. Look at it every day. Write down the information you need to remember every day as soon as you think of it. Check off your bills when they are paid and write in follow up appointments as soon as they are made. It can be hard to be consistent at first but when you start getting things done on time and don't have to worry about forgetting information then it becomes routine and easy to go back to.
PLANNER STICKERS - DO I NEED THEM?
The picture in this blog post shows the October planner stickers from my shop. Do we need stickers to plan? No but yes. Pretty and cute stickers have an important function to staying organized. Having decoration inspires us to keep using our calendars. They make mundane task tracking less boring and more inspiring and fun to stay on top of.
